Mattress?

Ok since everyone here is very helpful and everyone here owns a mattress I thought I’d ask you all for your opinions on the mattress you own.. why you like it or not and why or why not, and don’t forget to let me know the brand!

I just bought a new mattress, I treated myself after years of sleeping on a very uncomfortable mattress and waking up with headaches.. and this mattress turned out to be one that I need to turn every few weeks because it’s already got that sag in the middle :( So I’m going to put this one in the guest bedroom (heh don’t tell any of my guests) and find a new one for me but this time do some research and hear real reviews on what brands work or not. Thanks in advance guys n ladies :)

Edited to add, my mattress is a Kingsdown something something firm.  It has a pillow top that I wish I could rip off! It’s so comfortable to fall asleep on, but the pillow top is so thick it offers no support even though this is the “firm” version :(

    I’ve heard good things about the Tempurpedic mattress. I actually have a tempurpedic pillow but the mattress I have is like over 20yrs old. {name tag is gone from it lol}
I think my body is just conformed to it lol. Also have one of those serta mattress toppers as well.

sorry about your troublesome mattress though Bryci

Pillow tops! Go for a pillow top bed. I just bought one and it feels like u sink into the mattress and it hugs you at every corner! The brand I got was a Simmons. I had one from Simmons before (wasn’t a pillow top) and I used to have the best nights sleep on there! Simmons is the way to go in my book. Hope this helps.

Looking at the other comments it looks like everyone’s gonna recommend something different! Mine is a silent night (dunno if they’re available in Canada?) miracoil with a layer of natural latex on top, you never need to turn it and the layer of latex is enough to be really comfy but not too much to have a lack of support. Best one I’ve had, happy hunting! :)

I had a car accident a few years ago, injured my back quite extensively. Long story short, was told to get some overpriced piece of crap.

Quickly traded that in for a Sealy/Serta pillow top deluxe mattress. Never looked back.

Combined with a good pillow, it’s a perfect night’s sleep.

WOW! Thank you all so much for the comments and help, it’s so appreciated!

The Kingsdown sucks sooo bad. I still cannot believe they are allowed to sell this POS.

I had problems for years with a painful back etc…. Get a Select Comfort bed that you can dial the firmness. I LOVE IT!!!!! I like my mattress firm and I can dial in the exact firmness. It will never sag! If you think it has lost a little air, which it does over the weeks, just dial the firmness again and presto, new bed!!!!!!

    Trust me!!!!!

BTW – you and James are great!

I have a horrible back and I use a Serta pillow top deluxe. It’s nice and it is durable. I’ve had it for 2 years and it’s just like new. I hope that helps…

ok I just bought a brand new serta pillow top with the 2 piece box spring so that it was easier to get in my apartment, well over all it’s a great sleep and comfy as hell. BUT and it’s a big BUT, I didn’t realize that the 2 box springs would cause the bed to sag on either side of the middle divider (where the 2 wood frames of the box springs meet). So I put 2/4’s running the width wise down my bed between the mattress and the box spring. This helps a lot. I think king sized beds tend to sage quiet often try the 2/4 method next time when u first get it.

There’s my 2 cents for you hun :D

Awesome thanks guys! So far I’m hearing a lot of yay for serta.. I will definitely have a look into them :)

  14. Bill Says:

Bryci – please go look at a select comfort as well as serta! I believe any mattress will sag and pillow tops are the worse! I have nothing to gain from you looking at a select comfort, except that I love mine that much. I’ve “been there done that” with mattress’s…..

I was in the same boat recently and these were my findings. I prefer a firm bed but love the softness of the pillow top. Serta is meh IMO. The springs shift a lot compared to other models which make for very odd love making and I’m not a fan of the feel just when sitting on them. Select Comfort is waaay overpriced, the motors go on in the middle of the night, they lose air, and google “Select Comfort Mold issues”. Since I have allergies that killed that pretty quick. Tempurpedics are nice, however they absorb too much motion IMO and make it difficult to do anything. They also used to have heat retention issues but got a lot o them squared away. I’m personally using the Simmons Beautyrest Connoisseur and LOVE IT. It allows me to move about, but the motion doesn’t go to my partner, double coiled around the edges so I can sit on them without feeling like I’m going to slide off, has lumbar support, and no sagging although the entry Beautyrest models have had reports of the issue. You can also check out their Black lineup as that’s also very, VERY good.

Yes I’ve also read about the heat retention with tempurpedics, and the mold issue with another.. I can’t remember which brand though. This is a lot of information, thanks everyone!
