My mom is a great artist too, and I've been wanting a piece of art from her for years, I really wouldn't care if it were framed or not, because I love her and want it! Maybe go with the no frame, and that allows them to pick out a frame they like that'll match their taste and decor :) I would LOVE that. Depending on my mood depends on what I do with that restless time. Mostly I spend it either gaming or drawing. I think I may do a series of drawings for gifts this year for some people. My mom has already put in an order for a couple of drawings, as well as other family members. I just need to do them, so I may do them and give them as gifts. My biggest question is if I should frame them or just put them in tubes. I feel that if I frame them myself, I feel I'm being arrogant. I guess it's just something I'll have to think about.
