So yesterday I decided I was going to learn how to make soup.  It turned out in the end to be a stew.. but whatever I like stew better hah.  It was a lentil stew, with potatoes, carrots, celery, kidney beans and v8 juice.. and it was pretty bland if I say so myself.  I made a big pot of it though, so it’ll stay in the deep freeze until company comes over and I need to feed people *grin*.  Such a nice hostess I am!

I started off following the recipe/instructions only to almost burn my house down.  I was upstairs tidying when I smelled something funky… ran downstairs only to see the whole lower level was clouded with smoke from one little pot.  I instantly thought the kitchen is on fire! Ahh what do I do now?! So I opened all the windows (the fire alarm didn’t even go off) and got all the smoke out, turns out the recipe was a little off and being the inexperienced cook I am, I didn’t realise that lentils would soak up all the water in the pot ASAP.  I learned though, and gave it a second go in a new pot.  I dread having to scrape the burnt lentils off the bottom of the pot, but it’ll have to be done, oh well.  Enjoy my pictures from the whole ordeal!
