Tale of the grapefruit

by Bryci on Oct.13, 2008, under Random Photos

grapefruit-seedplanted-grapefruit-seedLately I’ve read that eating grapefruit is just great for your health, so I’ve picked up the habit of having at least a half of a grapefruit every day.  At first I wasn’t a big fan, but lately I’ve been loving it and actually craving more grapefruit!

Today I grabbed a grapefruit off of the counter, sliced it in half and poured some sugar overtop and off I went to eat it.  I sat down and a little piece of green caught my eye, and trust me.. i’m a girly girl when it comes to being grossed out.  I thought it was a worm!  Then my curiosity got the best of me and I had to investigate instead of just throwing it out.. it turned out one of the little grapefruit seeds had sprouted!  One of the sprouts fell off when I was digging it out of the grapefruit, but one remained in tact.  I of course ran to grab some dirt and I planted it!  We’ll see how it goes.. I’ve got to research how to grow grapefruit, but I’ll keep you updated!

Wow for 3 blog posts in one day, hey? ;)

What’s outside my window today

by Bryci on Oct.13, 2008, under Random Photos

october Today is a glum cloudy day, though I’m keeping my house nice and warm inside!  I decided to take a photo so you could see what it looks like outside my office window, this is what I see when I’m procrastinating work!

I’m guessing the little lines are from my window screen, but you get the jist of what it looks like!  Sleepy little neighborhood I live in!  Click the pic to go bigger.

So all day yesterday, and all day today I have had this new song stuck in my head.  It’s actually a really good song. You know it’s bad when you fall asleep singing the song in your head… and you wake up and you’re singing the song.  It’s Womanizer, by Britney spears.  Woohoo she’s back! :)

That’s all for now, bye!

Getting clean!

by Bryci on Oct.13, 2008, under Random Photos

coconut-oilI love showering, I really do.  It’s like my mini getaway from the world, no one bothers me, it’s completely quiet except for the sound of the running water, and I can really think or just relax.  Even though it takes hours for my hair to dry afterwards and that drives me completely insane, I still love being freshly washed and clean!

Lately though I’ve gotten into coconut oil.  I was tired of lotions perfume (scents really bothers me), or lotions that were mostly water and after a few hours my skin would dry out.  So I did some research and since I was brought up to use the most natural things I could find, I found that people often use coconut oil as a lotion alternative.  My first thought was, “Ew, that would leave me skin really greasy and shiny/oily!”  but I decided to give it a try anyway. I ran to this organic food store because everyone else looked at me as though I had 3 purple heads when I asked for coconut oil.  Thankfully the organic food store had it, and I grabbed a jar that was virgin coconut oil, and claimed it tasted good as well.

I’ve been using it from head to toe, and it really doesn’t take a lot to cover you.  You put it on straight away out of your shower or bath, to keep the moisture in.  Normal lotions have silicone-type additives, which does keep moisture in… but it also keeps moisture out, ick.

I also use it on the very tips of my hair as well, it’s amazing!  You need to use a drop or two, rub it in your hands to warm it up, then put it on from your ears down, otherwise your roots will look oily.  It keeps my hair shiny, and seems to be keeping it stronger!  Hope everyone had a fantastic thanksgiving!
